Thanks to the informal state motto "don't mess with Texas," we've always been a little intimidated by the Lone Star State. Thanks to too much television and cowboy movies, the Texas of our imagination is full of big hats, oilmen, and awesome barbecue restaurants. Thankfully we've got the Street Style feature of the Dallas Observer to bring things back down to earth. Texas may be all those things, but it's also a hotbed of American style.

A recent sidewalk-level post confirms this, thanks to 20-year-old Elaine Sun, photographed while walking through Dallas' Deep Ellum neighborhood in a simple black dress, a vintage denim vest, and a pair of our always-in-style Pampa Hi boots in black suede.
